The Sr. Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the Accounting department in preparing balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger and financial statements as well as facilitating other key processes within the department. This position requires supervisory skills, critical and analytical thinking, the ability to work independently, strong detail orientation, excellent organizational skills, and the willingness to learn and grow within the organization. The ideal Sr. Staff Accountant will enjoy applying their technical knowledge, will take ownership of their area and consistently look for ways to improve processes and operations.
The Sr. Staff Accountant is responsible for the assigned month-end close processes, including, but not limited to, balance sheet reconciliations, preparation of journal entries, accruals, and analysis and ad hoc reporting.
Supervise the work of 1 – 2 staffs
Provides support in maintaining the general ledger.
Ensures all journal entries comply with corporate standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Researches, recommends and implements resolutions to questions and inquiries from internal and/or external clients.
Reconciles high volume liability accounts. Researches and resolves issues.
Assist in development of desktop procedures and process documentation.
Provide support in benefits related processes.
Other special projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, public accounting experience strongly preferred
Strong General Accounting skills and GAAP knowledge required
2-4 years of month-end close experience in a high-volume environment
2-4 years of balance sheet reconciliation is required.
Strong Excel skills strongly preferred (including vlookup and pivot tables)
Excellent communication skills with ability to interact with employees in multiple departments
